Or at least, that’s how the assignment began. As I began researching the story, however, I discovered that the system we have in place for dealing with post-incarcerated sex offenders is shockingly cruel to those who no longer pose a credible threat to society and ridiculously ineffective for those who might. Much of the technical blame can be pinned on two famous bodies of legislation: Megan’s Laws and the Adam Walsh Act. Full Article

I agree with the author that it was bipartisanship that got AWA passed. Democrats voted in favor of it, even Elizabeth Warren. Then 2+ years later, Walsh putting his handshake with Obama on the start of his tv show America’s Most Wanted , in return for or in gratitude of, Obama continuing to support funding for the AWA. After Walsh put the Obama handshake on his show, Walshs show got discontinued on Fox. Too much bipartisanship for the likes of Fox Network, when all their other shows were attacking Obama on Fox News I guess.
Still, I think more effort was made from Republicans regarding AWA as far as creation of it, Walsh and Mark Foley creating it, Republican Sinsebrenner legislatively introducing it. Rightwing Fox Network airing Walsh’s tough on crime show America’s Most Wanted which was the platform for propaganda for it. The unsubstantiated claim of 100k missing sex offenders being one of Walshs scare tactics. Walsh staring into the camera urging people to urge Congress ,’Come on, pass it already’, Walsh would say on the show. Never mind the children of registrants harmed by the AWA.
